Yarden Katzrin 2021

Yarden Katzrin 2021 shows characteristics of ripe red and black fruit, chocolate, orange peel, tobacco, cedar, Earl Grey tea and hints of green pepper. An impressive, rich, full-bodied wine with concentrated flavors and a long finish – a natural choice for festive occasions. While already delightful to drink, it will continue to improve in the bottle in the coming years and, with proper storage, will remain at its best for about 15–20 years from the vintage. Try serving it with a pan-seared entrecôte steak, cassoulet with duck confit, or gnocchi with black truffle mushrooms.

About the 2021 vintage: The 2021 harvest was another notable harvest in the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic, and our wonderful team rose to the challenge once again. The winter before the harvest had average rainfall, with warmer-than-average temperatures in both winter and spring. About a month after the harvest began on August 1, the week that closed August and opened September was our fourth-largest week ever in 39 years of harvests. We finished picking all the grapes in mid-October after a relatively short 11-week harvest. Yields were slightly low – 7% below average – and balanced by very high quality. All in all, the 2021 harvest showed impressive results across all our varieties.

Yarden Katzrin, first produced from the 1990 vintage, is made from several varieties harvested from select vineyards in the Golan Heights, all certified under the sustainable winegrowing standard. Yarden Katzrin 2021 is composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec. The wine was aged for 24 months in new French oak barrels.
